Shell Road temporarily closing in Winter Haven, Polk County reports

POLK COUNTY, Fla. - Polk County officials say Shell Road in Winter Haven is temporarily closing.

Shell Road will be closed for one week beginning Friday, Dec. 13, Polk County's Roads & Drainage Division reports.

Pol County says the closure is due to the construction of underground utility connections servicing the Harmony at Lake Eloise subdivision.

Shell Road will be closed just west of the intersection at West Lake Eloise Drive, the report states.

Polk County officials say the work will require southbound traffic along West Lake Eloise Drive to detour at the Eloise Loop Road roundabout to travel west to Rifle Range Road.

Meanwhile, eastbound traffic along Shell Road via American Superior Boulevard and Hoover Road in Eagle Lake will bypass the work zone in reverse order by traveling south along Rifle Range Road, then east on Eloise Loop Road to the roundabout.

Drivers then will be required to travel north onto West Lake Eloise Drive.

An additional three weeks of related work will be completed using lane closures with floggers, officials say.

Polk leaders say drivers should expect longer commutes in the area and should plan accordingly, especially during peak travel hours.
