Florida woman arrested after physically assaulting, stealing money, Christmas cards from 83-year-old: deputies

Police say a Florida woman has been arrested after physically assaulting and then stealing items including checks, a credit card and Christmas cards from an 83-year-old.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office arrested 29-year-old Heather Nelson on multiple charges Tuesday. Records show the charges include robbery, fraud, forgery and aggravated battery.

Deputies state Nelson was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is being held on a $30,000 bond.

What we know

Police say Nelson claimed she cleaned the house for the 83-year-old woman and demanded a $500 Christmas bonus from her.

When the 83-year-old told Nelson she didn't have enough money to give her the bonus, officials state Nelson wrenched the 83-year-old's checkbook from her hand, stole a check from the book and then took Christmas cards containing checks that were set to be mailed out.

General Crimes Agents report Nelson had written the stolen check in the amount of $1,400 for her Christmas bonus. The agents' investigation also revealed Nelson used the 83-year-old's credit card to pay her own rent, as well as purchase items. 

Agents say they obtained a warrant for Nelson for robbery by sudden snatching, aggravated battery on a person over 65, forgery, uttering a forged instrument, criminal use of personal identification, fraudulent use of a credit card and grand theft.

Deputies state Nelson was arrested Jan. 7.

Reports show Nelson was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
