Osceola County condos face unsafe conditions

A complex of condos in Osceola County is facing unsafe conditions.

An official with the Osceola Board of County Commissioners said that earlier this week, one building at the Sun Lake condos was deemed unsafe and was ordered to be evacuated. A this time, the official says that a second building was also deemed unsafe, following observation of similar significant damage involving substantial cracks through interior and exterior walls. This second building is currently in the process of being vacated.

The official goes on to say that visual inspection of the other buildings in Sun Lake have revealed less substantial issues, such as superficial cracks through stucco, but have not merited evacuation. All 11 condo buildings within Sun Lake have been inspected.

The next said step, according to the Osceola Board of County Commissioners, is the the responsibility of the property owners/tenants. They will need to contract with an engineer to determine the cause and remedy to bring the structures back to a safe state. It may be helpful for a reporting standpoint to keep tabs on the property HERE so that you can see when permits are pulled for repair. You will also be able to see the inspection data for the work performed.

While there isn’t assistance available to those displaced specifically for this issue, they are welcome to visit HERE to see what services may be available to assist them.
