Two dead, 1 airlifted in Lake County crash on Friday evening, officials say

Troopers announced two dead, one injured in a Lake County crash that took place Friday evening.

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - Troopers announced two people were dead and one injured in a Lake County crash that took place Friday evening.

The crash was reported around 7 p.m. and occurred in the eastbound and westbound lanes of County Road 42 and Lazylake Lane.

Reports suggest the 26-year-old Tavares man was speeding in a 2015 Ford Mustang and struck the victims while attempting to pass traffic in a no-passing zone while negotiating a curve.

While attempting to pass in a no-passing zone, the Mustang struck the front of a 2018 Mistubishi Mirage where the mustang ran off the roadway and entered the tree line. 

The 26-year-old was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition. 

He crashed into the Mirage in the westbound lane, which left the two victims deceased at the scene. The victims who were fatally injured in the crash included a male driver, 46, and a female passenger, 56.

This crash remains under investigation.
