Lake Mary condo shooting leaves one dead, one injured in alleged self-defense situation, officials say
LAKE MARY, Fla. - An early morning shooting at the Notting Hill Condominiums in Lake Mary left two victims shot in an alleged self-defense situation on Sunday, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies received a call just after 2:00 a.m. of two victims shot.
According to officials, deputies encountered an adult male in the parking lot with life-threatening gunshot wounds, and an adult female with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand.
Both were transported by ambulance. The male was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The suspected shooter remained on the scene. " He told detectives he had been involved in an argument with the deceased at a residence in the complex," said Seminole County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Bob Kealing.
Reports suggest that when the shooter tried to leave, the deceased followed him to his vehicle and attacked him. In fear for his safety, he retrieved a firearm, striking the deceased. The female was also wounded while trying to break up the altercation happening inside the shooter’s vehicle.
Detectives say the parties are known to each other and this incident is isolated.
After Seminole County Sheriff's consultation with the State Attorney’s office, the shooting is believed to be self-defense. No arrests have been made; the scene remains under investigation.
