Sanford riverwalk to undergo multi-million dollar makeover
SANFORD, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Sanford Riverwalk is about to get a multi-million dollar makeover. The massive expansion is meant to lure more visitors to Downtown Sanford.
Officials are expanding the Sanford Riverwalk by 2.4 miles. So, instead of ending where it currently does -- the Central Florida Regional Hospital -- it will end at I-4, making it the longest developed riverwalk in Florida.
The last leg of the pathway will also help complete a 26-mile bike path around Lake Monroe.
This is a $26 million project. The money comes form a one percent sales tax for infrastructure that voters approved in 2014.
Officials hope more walkers, bikers, and fishermen make their way toward Sanford.
