Orange Co. deputy fired shots at suspect, no one hurt

There were tense emotions and questions swirling among residents like Margaret Davis at two south Orlando apartment complexes Sunday afternoon.

Davis said, “This has been the most police presence I’ve seen in 10 years.”

Dozens of Orange County deputies and Orlando police officers were called to the area of Holden and Rio Grande for a call of shots fired.

"A deputy saw two men running, one of whom dropped a handgun," said Rose Silva, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "The deputy chased them toward the other complex when one of the suspects turns around apparently in a threatening way to the deputy."

Deputy Silva said, "The deputy shot rounds in that direction.”

As far as they know, nobody was shot and they haven’t found suspects yet.

It’s a lot for Chad Goddard to take in.

He moved to the complex just a month ago.

Chad Goddard, who lives in the apartment complex, said, "It’s definitely unsettling. It’s kind of scary.”

One deputy on paid leave, which is protocol. We’re also told FDLE will be investigating the case.
