Boat explosion at Lauderdale Marina leaves one person dead and five injured, according to officials
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - An explosion and fire aboard a vessel at the Lauderdale Marina on Monday evening left one person dead and five people injured, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR).
FLFR crews responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the incident around 6 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a significant fire involving one vessel, which had spread to a second.
Five individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment, with three suffering from traumatic injuries.
A sixth individual was found dead after an active search operation in the water by FLFR dive teams, assisted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO).
The fire has since been extinguished.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
Multiple agencies, including the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, BSO, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and the U.S. Coast Guard, are coordinating their efforts.
