Murphy to visit Zika virus researchers in Palm Beach

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy will be visiting the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter to meet with researchers combatting the Zika virus.

Murphy, who is running for the U.S. Senate, is set to speak with researchers Sunday morning. He and GOP Congressman Curt Clawson have introduced legislation that includes a 10 percent research tax credit for any company developing a vaccine for the mosquito-borne virus.

The U.S. government is urging health officials nationwide to prepare for possible outbreaks of the virus this summer. State health officials say 79 people in Florida have tested positive for the Zika virus. All are linked to people who had traveled abroad.
