Longtime lovebirds celebrate 78 years of marriage

The average life expectancy in the United States is 78 years old. And now one couple from Minnesota has matched that in years of marriage.

95-year-old Verna and 98-year-old Ervin Kaduce got married back in 1938. Together the two have seen multiple wars, the loss of a child, and the blessing of a great-great grandchild.

Verna says she took one look at her future husband way back and just knew. "I just knew he was going to be my husband," Verna said.

"My dad gave me 20 chickens that's what they did back in those days," Verna explained. "We took our vows very seriously and it all worked out pretty good."

The couple says there is no secret to a long-lasting marriage, though Ervin adds that never arguing can go a long way.  The Kaduce's marriage is currently the longest in the state of Minnesota.
