Kissimmee police searching for trio accused of impersonating officers, asking for money

A new scam is ongoing around Kissimmee, as two men and a woman are dressed as fake police officers and asking for donations.

The suspects casually walk into local businesses, immediately getting the attention of the folks working inside. One of the suspects was pictured with a fake badge sewn onto his shirt and a star on his hat.

The suspects ask for donations for the Kissimmee Police Department. They present three different donation options, starting at $150 and going all the way up to $500.

Fox 35 has learned that the trio have walked into at least six different businesses soliciting money. One business owner said that "they walk in very confidently" and that "they wear some kind of uniform thing so I did not get suspicious at first."

Five of the businesses that Fox 35 spoke to thought nothing of the suspects until the real police showed up.

Kissimmee Police Department spokesperson Bailey Meyers wants to make it clear -- Kissimmee police officers do not do this. She said that "those people are not affiliated with our police agency whatsoever. We would never go to a business and ask for a monthly donation."

Actual Kissimmee police detectives are now working to figure out who these people are and what they are doing.
