Kelsey Glover: Is Florida mom accused of drowning teen daughter competent to stand trial?

A Florida mom accused of withholding medication from her 14-year-old diabetic daughter and drowning her in a bathtub is not competent to stand trial, according to her defense attorneys.

Attorneys representing Kelsey Michelle Glover filed court documents last week stating that a doctor evaluated Glover in November and verbally opined that she was not competent to stand trial and met the requirements to be involuntarily hospitalized, according to court records.

The attorneys said in their motion that Glover was unable to appreciate the charges against her, the potential penalties, the adversarial nature of the legal process, nor provide facts regarding the case, among other things.

Glover waived her right to an appearance on Monday. However, her attorneys discussed with the judge the concerns about her competency to continue.

Judge John Beamer ordered a doctor to evaluate Glover and scheduled a competency hearing for Jan. 29.

A grand jury indicted Glover last week on charges of first-degree premeditated murder in the death of her daughter, Giselle, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the alleged attack on her roommate.

New disturbing details released in case of Florida mom accused of not treating and drowning diabetic child

Newly released documents detail the horrifying final days of a 14-year-old girl who died after her mother, identified as Kelsey Glover, allegedly withheld insulin and drowned the teen in a bathtub.

According to the arrest report and probable cause statement, a woman who lived at the home with Glover and her daughter, told deputies that Glover had stopped providing insulin to her diabetic daughter on Nov. 18. Giselle, the daughter, became increasingly sick over the next several days, including becoming weak, unable to eat, and vomiting.

The mother then allegedly confined the girl to a bedroom and played music so no one could hear her shouts for help, the report said, citing the roommate.

On Nov. 20, Glover asked the roommate to start a bath. She did – and at some point, noticed the mom holding her daughter's head under the water. The roommate tried to intervene, but Glover apparently grabbed a hammer and began to chase people around the home and threatening to kill them. The roommate locked herself inside another bathroom in the house, the report stated, and called 911.

Deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrived and found the teenager unresponsive inside the home. She was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead, the report said.

A Medical Examiner determined that the 14-year-old girl died by drowning and the manner was homicide.
