Human bones found behind home handed over to Medical Examiner

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of human bones found buried in the backyard of a Lake Kathryn home.  The home's owner, 61-year-old Dennis Jones, has not been seen in over a month, so  deputies attempted to make contact with him on Sunday.

"Deputies responded ... for a well-being check after a neighbor in the area stated the resident of the home had not been seen lately," said Sheriff's Office spokesman John Herrell said. "The well-being check eventually evolved into a missing person investigation."

After they were unable to locate Jones, a cadaver dog was brought to the home.  The dog alerted deputies to an area behind the residence.  Detectives acquired a search warrant, and on Monday, they began digging in the area where the dog alerted and human remains were found.  The remains have been turned over to the Medical Examiner's Office for identification and further examination.

Authorities are investing the case as a suspicious death, Herrell said.
