Former lawmaker hood dies after cancer battle
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Former state Rep. Dave Hood, an Ormond Beach Republican, died Friday after a long battle with brain cancer, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Hood, 64, was elected in 2012 to represent a Volusia County House district. He decided against seeking another term in 2014 and was appointed by then-Gov. Rick Scott as a circuit judge.
In 2013, Hood thanked fellow House members for their support after he underwent surgery to remove a tumor. In a letter, he said he had battled brain cancer since 2007. Hood also was a former mayor of Ormond Beach.
