Arrests announced in Parramore drive-by shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Detectives with the Orlando Police Department have announced two arrests in a drive-by shooting in Parramore that claimed the lives of two innocent bystanders.

Lavon R. Shinn and Christopher Vincent Miller, both 24, face multiple charges in the deaths of Tanya Skeen and Gino Nicolas.

Skeen, a 46-year-old mother of three, was putting away groceries in her apartment at the Landings at Carver Park, at 1140 Conley Street, when gunshots entered her apartment and she was struck.  Nicolas, 24, worked as the coordinator of the City of Orlando's My Brother's Keeper program, helping to reach some of our most at-risk youth and connect them to opportunity and successful futures.  He was also struck.  Four others received non life-threatening injuries.

"This case was solved through a combination of countless hours of dogged detective work and the cooperation of many in the community, which is still grieving from the loss of these two lives," said Orlando Police Chief John Mina.

Police say two groups got into a fight at an Orlando nightclub prior to the shootings.  Investigators said the two suspects sprayed bullets at a crowd.  "Random acts of violence like this cannot happen," said Detective Teresa Spraque during a news conference on Friday.  "The way we solve problems today cannot be with gunfire."        

Shin and Miller face charges including:  two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm, six counts of attempted first-degree Murder with a firearm, four counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and criminal mischief.

Shinn was already being held in the Seminole County Jail on unrelated felony aggravated assault and weapons charges.  Miller was picked up by OPD's Fugitive Unit and will be booked into the Orange County Jail.
