Alleged intended target in Holly Hill shooting recalls scary moments gunfire breaks out
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - More than three weeks after multiple bullets came flying through a home in Holly Hill, one person is facing criminal charges.
According to police, on December 7, Matthew Rondeau, 27, is accused of groping a woman at a home on 15th Street, then getting into a fight with that woman’s ex-fiancé, Jared Teitloff.
Teitloff spoke exclusively with FOX 35’s Hannah Mackenzie.
"[Rondeau] ended up leaving," Teitloff said. "He spun his tires right there, and then five minutes later, give or take, we heard him pull back up, and then BAM!"
An arrest affidavit from Holly Hill PD, stated multiple cameras at nearby businesses caught Rondeau’s vehicle leaving the home, then returning around 4:20 a.m. one camera even caught muzzle flashes as the gunman approached the house.
More than three weeks later, on December 30, Rondeau was arrested in connection to the shooting. He is charged with five counts of shooting into a dwelling. One count for each shell casing found at the scene.

"The first one flew through the wall, here," said Teitloff showing the damage left behind.
According to Holly Hill PD, multiple adults were inside, as well as an 8-year-old boy. His mother, Kristine Babbitt, said he slept through the shooting.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
"It’s crazy, too, because we know [Rondeau]," Babbitt said. "We’re friends, and I’m friends with his wife and the kids. So, it was weird how it was just anger."
Teitloff said he used to call Rondeau his brother.
"He ain’t my friend no more, that’s for sure," Teitloff said. "I just hope he learns his lesson. You know, I’ve been in and out of trouble a lot too, and I’ve had to learn my lessons; play stupid games, win stupid prizes."
On December 12, a few days after the shooting, Holly Hill investigators served a search warrant at Rondeau’s home. According to documents, a gun matching the caliber of the one used in the shooting was not found at the house, but a cell phone recovered by officers had an interesting search history. The document stated, "Holly Hill, Florida shooting," "how long does it take to get a warrant," and "free lawyers through FDLE portal" were among the Googled searches just hours after the shooting.
At the time of this publication, Rondeau remained in custody at the Volusia County detention center. His bond is set at $75,000.
