VIDEO: Alleged Koreatown dog thief arrested by LAPD
KOREATOWN, CA (FOX 11) - A groomer mistakenly gives away a dog to a man, pretending to be a relative of the dogs owner.
And the whole thing was caught on security video!
Pebbles actually belongs to Laura Taylor, and has for the past 11 years.
“If you look in the video he kinda pointed at a whole bunch of different dogs, and she just kind of offered up our dog and gave it to him,” Taylor said.
When FOX 11 stopped by Doggie Do’s, the groomer said that the mystery man had claimed to be Taylor’s nephew, and that’s why she handed over the dog.
Taylor told FOX 11 the groomer told her the same thing.
“She called me at 4:30, said your dogs are ready, I said I’ll be right there, when I got there she only had one dog,” she said. “She said oh I gave it to your nephew and I was like no he’s sleeping he’s not here.”
Once Taylor saw what happened on the surveillance video, she began posting signs around town with a photo of the suspect and of Pebbles.
On Tuesday, she says she got a tip that he was spotted at a McDonald’s in south LA. She called LAPD, and the man was arrested.
LAPD confirmed he is in custody at the 77th jail.
“Before he got picked up we confronted him and asked him where’s the dog and he denied it at first, once I showed him the videotape from the groomer he’s like okay I gave your dog to a Filipino lady, and then after that he’s like no I gave it to a homeless person,” Taylor said.
Pebbles was not with the man, and Taylor is asking for the public’s help in finding the dog.
“I feel good that he was arrested but I’d feel even better if I get my dog back,” she said.
