Teen lured from Texas to Florida via Instagram
APOPKA, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - Apopka Police say a teenaged victim in a luring investigation thought she was traveling to meet someone rich and famous but ended up being sexually battered.
Police say 25-year-old Richard Brown hired an Uber to drive the 17-year-old girl from Texas to his home in Apopka. According to investigators, he told the victim he was "Instagram Famous" and would take care of her.
Officers say the teen wasn't allowed to leave the home after being sexually battered over a three-day period. She was able to escape and call 911.
Brown told investigators he paid $822 to hire an Uber, but he indicated that he never had any type of sexual contact with her and thought she was 18.
"We see several inconsistencies with this affidavit," said Brown's attorney. "The victim said to police she met Mr. Brown through Instagram but somehow her account was hacked, couldn't download the messages to show police."
Brown is charged with sexual battery.
