Orlando police releases video of SunRail train collision with SUV
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Orlando police has released video of Wednesday's incident involving a SunRail train and a vehicle.
Colonial Drive was closed in Downtown Orlando just before the Wednesday rush hour, after the train collided with an SUV, authorities said. The crash shut down both directions of the roadway for over an hour while police investigated. It also prompted delays for northbound and southbound trains.
The video shows the SUV move toward the tracks as the railroad crossing gate lowers and lights signal that a train is approaching. Moments before the SunRail train passes through the intersection at Colonial Drive, the SUV is seen moving in front of the train. The video was released in a tweet by OPD on Thursday.
"Please obey all traffic laws, especially when approaching railroad crossings," the agency tweeted. "Trying to cross when a train approaches is extremely dangerous. Exercise patience and drive safe."
The incident remains under investigation, but no other details were released.
Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Olson said there were two crew members and 82 passengers on board the train. The driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
