Man dies, woman hospitalized after being pulled from ocean
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Two people, a man and a woman, were pulled from the water in Daytona Beach Friday afternoon. Both were taken to an area hospital, where the man was pronounced deceased and the woman remains in serious condition.
A lifeguard pulled the two ashore after it was observed that they were having difficulty swimming. An attempt was made to resuscitate the man on the way to the hospital. Authorities said the two appeared to be visiting the area and do no speak English.
"We know that they are both from out of the country, but their names will not be released at this time," said Captain Tamra Malphurs with the Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. "We were searching for a possible 3rd person missing in the surf but it has been confirmed there is not a missing person."
Authorities were flying the red flag due to hazardous rip current conditions, and they expect the same throughout the weekend. Twelve people were pulled out of the ocean throughout Volusia County on Friday.
