Hurricane Maria activists staging at President Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort

Protesters are staging a rally at President Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort following the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria.

The number of deaths from the storm is still at the center of controversy, as Puerto Rico's governor raised the U.S. territory's official death toll from Hurricane Maria from 64 to 2,975 at the end of August. President Trump has disputed this on Twitter.

Activists want to continue to keep the attention on the island. One activist says that "It's important, most of all, so that we can advocate for those on the island who can't advocate for themselves."

Some of the protesters are gathering in Orlando. Since the storm, the federal government has given Puerto Rico billions of dollars in disaster relief, as well as meals, water, medicines, and generators.
