Homeowner shoots at suspected burglar
WINTER SPRINGS Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Police say a teenager burglarized four cars in a Winter Springs neighborhood, but the accused thief was caught after he tried burglarizing a home where the owner was armed with a gun.
It was early Thursday morning, when surveillance showed a hooded figure outside a Winter Springs home. Homeowner Scott Friedman called for help.
"Hey I think there's someone trying to break into my house," he told a 911 operator. "There was someone on my porch with a light, and he was trying to get into, he was hooded and was trying to get into my backyard, I mean my house."
Police said Friedman fought back and was armed, firing two shots out a window. In video surveillance from the home, you can see the suspect backing away and then two puffs of smoke from the gun being fired. You can just see the smoke as the homeowner fires his gun.
"I shot threw my back window. He ran out my porch door," Friedman told the 911 operator.
Police caught Alexender Yanguas, 17, nearby and said he has been involved in four car burglaries in the neighborhood, as well as having ties to a stolen car from Longwood.
Anthony Todd said the thief went into his car and id grateful to his neighbor for helping to catch the thief.
"He went through it and messed everything up," Todd said of the accused thief and added that Friedman is "the hero of the day."
Police said the teen was already on probation for carrying a concealed firearm, grand theft and burglary.
