Firefighters battle flames at Lake Mary condominium complex
LAKE MARY, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A Lake Mary condo complex bursted into flames on Monday morning.
According to the Seminole County Fire Rescue, a fire broke out early Monday morning at the Regency Park condominium complex in Lake Mary. The call for the fire came in at 4:50 a.m. and upon arrival, the building was heavily involved.
Bryan Cole said that the fire woke him up early on Monday. “I walked out the front door and saw light and I followed it around and there’s about three feet of flames climbing up the side of the building on the second floor.” He rushed back inside to get his family of three to safety.
One building was evacuated and eight units are damaged. Dozens of people are displaced. No injuries have been reported so far.
Halaya Jackson said she made a daring escape when she opened her front door and saw fire. “My sister was like you just got to jump, just get out, just get down the stairs so I had to like jump over the fire and run down the stairs.”
Jackson said once she got outside she realized she left her beloved snake, Buttercup, inside. Firefighters went back in to save the snake and a couple of cats from other condo units. “I was just like thank god. I was like, I don’t even care about anything else, just as long as the snake is alive.”
Investigators are working to figure out the cause of the fire.
