Bike safety tips for the summer season
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Summer is here and lots of kids are on their bicycles. That means lots of kids are getting hurt on their bicycles.
Biking is popular outdoor activity and experts say you better wear your helmet, especially kids. Not only is that the law, but according to a new study, 25 children are sent to the emergency room with bike-related injuries every hour.
The State of Florida sees more of these accidents than anywhere else. The state also has the highest fatality rate in the county for bicyclists.
Florida law requires anyone under the age of 16 to wear a helmet, but doctors say it is not enforced enough.
Doctors say if you have a cracked or broken helmet, it must be replaced in order to provide the best protection.
