'Pop-up City' planned for Seminole County

SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Seminole County Courthouse dominates the landscape south Sanford. It is pretty much the tallest building around. 

Now, there are plans in the works for something right across the street at the old Flea World site,  that would bring more and maybe taller buildings to the area, and it almost create a second downtown in a $2 billion development.

The 110-acre development, know as Parkside Place, is designed for one to live, work and play, without ever leaving the neighborhood.

"We see this as a new hub in Seminole County," says developer Karim Kismail.  "About 4,000 multi-family units, about 750 student housing units."

Additionally, there will be hundreds of independent living units, a more than 300-bed assisted living facility, a 250-room hotel, and more than 300,000-square-feet of retail space. 

"It will have lots of green space, walking trails, bicycling trails," Kismail adds, "so that it invites the community to come and spend time there."

The project has been approved county planners and commissioners.  After a state review, the project will come back to the Seminole County Commission for final approval.
