Police search for suspect who punched victim outside club

Orlando police need your help to identify a suspect who punched a man and left him in critical condition.

Investigators say the incident was caught on camera.

In the video, you can see the victim in a fighting stance and the suspect throwing a punch.

One witness told the News Station what he saw.

"I was out there the night prior, and seeing a little kid getting hit by a big old dude, I was like, 'Are you serious?'" Jay Smallz said.

Police released pictures of the suspect they're searching for.

"I don't like people getting away with stuff. This kid could be messed up," Smallz said.

Investigators say the victim is in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Smallz said the situation angers him because the same thing happened to his own brother.

"My brother is in the same situation and they never caught him. He has a metal plate in his head. Same situation. He was military, got sucker punch," Smallz said.

Many wonder what caused this fight to occur in the first place.

Bar patron Marcus Stringfield said, "I think it's a mixture of both intoxication and animosity. People get a little alcohol in their system and want to be the punch guy and impress their friends. It's real scary because it's so easy to get away with that, because it's so crowded down here. And yet police are down here very thick during those hours."

Smallz wishes another person would have taken control of the situation.

"All they had to do was grab him," he said. "Why didn't nobody grab him?"

Police hope the public can identify the suspect.

The incident took place outside Tier Nightclub on Sunday at around 2:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Orlando Police Department and ask for Detective Seggi at 407-246-2975.
