Habitat for Humanity builds four homes in five days

APOPKA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Rodreca Mack cried tears of joy as she got the keys to her new home. 

“I just want to say thank you to the builders and my support team. 

Without you, I wouldn't be standing here today,” Mack said.

Mack was one of four people overjoyed to be getting a new house thanks to Habitat for Humanity. 

“Because it was a long journey for me, but I'm super excited to see that my house was complete,” she said.

Mack and the others qualified for these homes after applying through Habitat for Humanity, completing 17 homeowners' courses and putting in 200 work hours with the organization.

Habitat says this project was part of their so-called "Builder's Blitz."

“We have four local builders who generously donated their time and talent to build four new homes for four local families in five days,” said Catherine McManus, local president of Habitat for Humanity.

The four homes are part of a neighborhood of 34 homes, all going to Habitat for Humanity recipients. 

It’s one of three such communities in the greater Orlando area, and they're planning on building a fourth. 

All homes will go to low-income residents like Mack and Lizbeth Ramos.

“Oh my God,” Ramos said. “I feel like I can conquer the world, knowing I could do this.”

Orange County donated $1.6 million for the land and infrastructure. 

Mayor Jerry Demings was at Saturday's dedication ceremony. 

“They have the opportunity now to be homeowners and participate in what it means to be an American, really,” Demings said.

“It feels great,” Mack said, “I feel really good to be a homeowner.”
