Massive solar facility powers two of Disney's Florida theme parks with renewable clean energy

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Walt Disney Parks has announced that their massive new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility is officially online and providing renewable clean energy to Walt Disney World Resort. 

The Environmental Integration Director at Walt Disney Parks, Angie Renner, made the announcement on the Disney Parks Blog. She stated that the facility, which was built in collaboration with the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA, is expected to generate enough power from the sun to operate two of their four Central Florida theme parks. 

She said that the facility will also significantly reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, helping the Walt Disney Company deliver on its 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% compared to 2012. 

In 2016, a 22-acre, 5-megawatt solar facility shaped like Mickey Mouse opened in 2016.
