ORLANDO, Fla. - Hurricane Ian made landfall on the southwestern coast of Florida as an "extremely dangerous" category 4 storm Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday morning, the system was downgraded to a tropical storm as it lashed Central Florida.
Ian made landfall at 3:05 p.m. near Cayo Costa with sustained winds of 150 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center, and is expected to weaken as it moves across the state. Several areas in Cental Florida and near Tampa are under various hurricane and tropical storm watches and warnings.
As Ian made its way to Central Florida, there is massive flooding in Osceola County, Seminole County, prompting flash flooding emergencies and flash flooding warnings.
