15-year-old Volusia County kid arrested for alleged threat

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has had an influx of school threat hoaxes coming from kids. He has been sharing the arrests of these kids on X including their mugshots and "perp walks". Today he announced another arrest of a 15-year-old boy who threatened to blow up a school while playing Fortnite. However, Chitwood said on X that he would not release this kids identity because he is autistic.

Historic Torah scrolls saved from fire: 'It's a miracle'

The Chabad of Greater Orlando synagogue in Maitland caught fire early Sunday afternoon. Six Torah scrolls were saved from the fire including one that survived the Holocaust. FOX 35's Stephanie Buffamonte spoke with Rabbi Dovid Dubov about the building damage and the emotional moment fireman brought the Torahs out safely.

The Chabad of Greater Orlando experienced a fire on Sunday morning. Rabbi Dubov told FOX 35 over the phone that the fire appears to have started after services ended. He said six sacred Torah scrolls were saved. He shared video with FOX 35 that showed firefighters delivering a large Torah scroll, seemingly undamaged.

Kappy's Subs reopens Monday after community support

Kappy's Subs, a popular diner in Maitland with a 57-year history, will reopen on Monday, Sept. 23, after fears that it would close permanently. New owners purchased the lot and initially were unable to come to an agreement, Kappy's Subs posted on Facebook weeks ago. As a result, the diner said it would close. The community rallied around the beloved diner -- and during last-dich negotiations, a new deal was made, owners said.

8 arrested after pro Palestine rally ends in Orlando, police say

Eight people are in custody following a Pro-Palestine gathering in Downtown Orlando, according to the Orlando Police Department. Officials said a peaceful demonstration with 20 individuals took place around 4:00 p.m. at Lake Eola. Officials said the group walked around the area peacefully as they were monitored by officers before concluding around 5:15 p.m. Investigators said around 5:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a disturbance near the Publix on East Central Boulevard. Upon arrival to the call, officials found some of the demonstrators arguing with a person officers said had opposing views from them.

Cyclists host memorial ride in honor of girl hit, killed on bike

A group of cyclists held a memorial bike ride on Saturday in honor of 10-year-old Shaolan "Lana" Kamaly, who was hit and killed by a car while on her way to school. The group put up a banner encouraging drivers to look for bike riders, young and old.

1 dead, 1 hurt in shooting at Melbourne park, police say

A shooting Saturday night at Eddie Lee Taylor Park in Melbourne left one man dead and another man in critical condition, according to the police. At 7:24 p.m., gunshots were heard near the entrance of the park, which sent both crowds running in all directions, police said. Two adult men had been shot, police said. One man was transported to the hospital via car. That man was last listed in critical condition. Police said a second person was found shot in the parking lot. He was transported to the hospital, where he died. His name was not released.

Ex-deputy facing manslaughter after girlfriend shot, killed

A former Marion County deputy is facing a manslaughter charge after his girlfriend was shot in the head and killed while the two were apparently undergoing a lesson in how to clean and properly handle guns. FOX 35's Matt Trezza discussed the case with two law enforcement and gun safety experts.

Man armed with knife shot, killed by Florida deputies

A man in mental distress was shot and killed outside a hotel in Orange County early Saturday after he ran towards deputies were a knife, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said. Deputies were called to the hotel after the man's girlfriend told 911 that he was armed with a knife and threatening to kill himself. Deputies tried to get the man to come out of the hotel room without the knife to get him the help he needed, Sheriff Mina said.
