Florida's Patrick Space Force Base tapped for Space Force programs

Patrick Space Force Base in Brevard County has been named the “preferred” location for two parts of the growing U.S. Space Force — the Space Training and Readiness Command Headquarters and Space Delta 10, according to the U.S. Air Force.

‘Dreaming of this moment’: Axiom launches second private astronaut mission to the ISS

Axiom-2 lifted off Sunday at 5:37 p.m., transporting humans and science to space. It’s the second all-private mission to take off from Kennedy Space Center. The international team is made up of United States and Saudi astronauts who embarked on a 16-hour journey to the ISS before spending the next 10 days doing research and paving the way for a new chapter in low-earth orbit.

SpaceX had originally planned to send its next batch of Starlink satellites during a nighttime launch from Florida on Wednesday, but then it got moved to Thursday. Due to inclement weather, the Starlink launch was moved to Friday morning at 1:31 a.m., SpaceX tweeted.

Kathy Lueders, who led NASA's Space Operations Mission Directorate and oversaw the International Space Station, retired in April 2023 after more than three decades with the space agency.
