Downtown Orlando curfew ends after Halloween shooting

The City of Orlando has ended the state of emergency and curfew for downtown Orlando following last week's deadly shooting during Halloween, which left two people dead and eight others hurt.

Downtown Orlando shooting suspect to be charged as an adult

The 17-year-old suspect in the downtown Orlando shooting over Halloween will be charged as an adult, State Attorney Andrew Bain announced Monday. He was charged with second-degree murder, though additional charges are pending. Bain said in Florida a grand jury has to indict on first-degree murder and that his office plans to present the case to a grand jury soon.

FOX 35 is learning more about Tyrek Hill and Timothy Schmidt Jr., the two men killed after a gunman opened fire on crowds celebrating Halloween in downtown Orlando. Hill was a dedicated employee of a local towing business and Schmidt Jr. was a student at UCF.

Anthony Berry was hanging out with friends on Friday night for Halloween when an alleged gunman started shooting right next to him. He was hit in the head, grazed by a bullet. The doctor said if that bullet him it any lower, he likely would have had serious brain damage.

What happened to downtown Orlando's security checkpoints?

After seven people were hurt in a mass shooting in downtown Orlando in 2022, the City of Orlando and Orlando police added six security checkpoints to get into the downtown entertainment district. Those checkpoints included metal detectors and police K9s to access the street where Orlando's bustling bars and clubs area.
