Wanted man dies after charging at Polk County deputy with knife

A man wanted for burglary and theft was shot and killed after charging at a Polk County deputy with a knife, according to Sheriff Grady Judd. Deputies were trying to track down 37-year-old John Snyder for burglary and theft when they located him just before midnight on Friday. Judd says that this incident marks three Fridays in a row where his deputies were forced to shoot at a suspect.

Pope Francis funeral: Church leader laid to rest in Vatican City

A funeral for Pope Francis was held Saturday morning in Vatican City. His final resting place was at Santa Maria Maggiore, also known as Saint Mary Major. The pope is breaking with tradition and is the first pope in more than a century to not be buried beneath St Peter’s Basilica. More than 250,000 people attended the hours-long ceremony. The pope died on Monday, April 21, 2025. The former leader of the Catholic Church died of a stroke and cardiac arrest, according to the Vatican. His final public appearance was on Easter Sunday, when he provided blessings to crowds of faithful.

Florida surfer releases first book 'On a Rising Swell'

Dan Reiter a life-long Floridian and surfer, has released his first book called "On a Rising Swell." In the two dozen essays, Reiter chronicles the passionate Space Coast community of surfers who are determined to surf the less-than-perfect sandbars in the small wave capital of the world. Florida man sentenced for hacking Disney's menus

A former Disney employee who pled guilty to hacking into the park's menu system is now heading to prison. Winter Garden resident Michael Scheuer, 40, will serve three years in federal prison, as well as forfeit his computers and pay $687,776.50 in restitution to the victims of his crimes.
