Orlando Magic unveil overhauled roster
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Orlando Magic have capped a feverish two weeks with the signing of three new free agents.
Center Bismack Biyombo, forward Jeff Green and D.J. Augustin were introduced Thursday after signing free-agent deals with the Magic on the first day the NBA allowed teams to officially bring aboard players.
“Bismack is a tremendous competitor and athlete who excels on the defensive end of the floor. He proved during the playoffs that he can rebound and protect the rim at an elite level, and he will bring toughness and winning fiber to our frontcourt," said General Manager Rob Hennigan. “Jeff is a veteran that brings versatility and depth to our frontcourt. He will provide tremendous leadership to our team, both on and off the floor, and we are extremely excited to welcome him into the Magic family.”
The Magic also announced the re-signing of their own restricted free agent Evan Fournier, who declined more lucrative offers to remain on the team he has been with for the past two seasons.
“As soon as the season ended, we said bringing Evan (Fournier) back was a top priority for us,” said Hennigan. “He made tremendous strides last season and we’re confident he will continue to improve and grow as an integral member of our core. We are extremely happy to have Evan back in an Orlando Magic uniform.”
The new additions join veteran power forward Serge Ibaka, who was acquired in a trade with Oklahoma City on NBA draft night two weeks ago. Biyombo, who established himself as a shot-blocker during the most recent playoffs with the Toronto Raptors, is the free agent prize for Orlando.
The Magic also signed free agent guard D.J. Augustin, described by Hennigan as a "premier perimeter shooter," and rookie center Stephen Zimmerman, who was selected by Orlando in the second round (41st overall) of NBA Draft 2016.
