A World War II veteran recently celebrated his 100th birthday in metro Atlanta.

Abe and Evelyn Thornton met in 1946 after his four years in World War II ended. They've been married for 71 years and have seven children, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandkids.

This month, Mr. Thornton turned 100 years old.

"My dad's a superhero," said daughter Denise Thornton.

FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt met Thornton's family as they gathered for a celebration to commemorate his milestone.

Thornton is currently recovering from a recent illness, and his wife is struggling with dementia, but their children said both will remain together, honoring their wedding vows.
