Wrong-way crash on S.R. 528 takes one life

A fatal crash caused a state road to shutdown early on Tuesday morning. 

Two vehicles were involved in the fatal wreck on eastbound S.R. 528 at 417. Fox 35 was on scene and observed one vehicle flipped over in the median and another vehicle smashed in and facing the wrong way. 

 


 

One person died in the crash. A report later released by FHP identified the victim as 31-year-old Christopher Canela from Winter Springs. 

The report also stated that details of the crash, saying that a Dodge SUV was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 528 when he struck the front of Christopher's vehicle. 

A blood sample was reportedly taken from the wrong-way driver. Charges are pending as authorities await a toxicology report.

After the crash, FHP blocked the entrance to the eastbound S.R. 528 ramp at Narcoosee Road to clean it up. It has since re-opened.
