Wounded Warriors Swim with Sharks

It was a special experience Wednesday for several men and women who sacrificed for their country. Thanks to the Wounded Warrior Project, some veterans got a unique view of the sea life at the Georgia Aquarium.

During a guided swim in the more than six-million-gallon tank, the injured veterans swam with whale sharks, manta rays and other sea life.

Michael Hilliard was one veteran who took part. He was shot in the head while serving in Iraq. After recuperating, he re-enlisted and went back overseas. He said being in the water helped him when he came back home. He is now a dive master at the Georgia Aquarium.

The Wounded Warrior Project is an organization dedicated to helping active and retired military adapt after suffering life-altering injuries, while raising awareness and engaging the public's help in the needs of injured service members.

The veterans said these experiences are not only fun, but also help with the healing process.
