Woman attacked in school zone road rage incident, deputies say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Orange County sheriff’s deputies said a road rage incident in Pine Hills ended with a woman getting beat up in the middle of the street.

According to police reports, on Friday morning, Sheruna Martin was driving down Hiawassee Rd. toward Balboa Dr. and slowed down to 20 miles per hour to travel through a school zone. That’s when she told deputies that a man in a car behind her speed onto her tail and started driving erratically trying to get around her.

"Cursing and speeding. He got this close to my car, literally,” said Martin as she recalled the incident Wednesday.

Martin said she traveled through a second school zone before the lane beside her opened up so she could move over and let the guy by. At that point though, she said he speed alongside her car and threw a bottle at the vehicle.

Deputies said in the report that Martin pulled into the center lane to dial 911, but she said the man pulled off to and came directly to her driver’s side window.

"He just kind of like reached in and grabbed my phone and then ran back to his car, and at that point I just jumped out of my car and ran after that guy,” said Martin.

Martin said she approached the man back at his car and he began hitting her repeatedly in the head, knocking her to the ground and dropping her phone, before getting back in his car and taking off.
Martin told deputies she was unable to get a plate number before the guy took off, but described him and his black Scion car to them.

Martin said she knew it was a long-shot they’d find the guy with so little to go off of, so she decided to play detective.

Martin said she and a friend spent the weekend driving through several neighborhoods in the area she recalled the driver pulling onto Hiawassee from. On Sunday, she spotted the car at a home and called in the Sheriff’s Office again.

Deputies said in the report that they located 24 year-old Lorens Milfort who claimed Martin had side-swiped him up the road. He said he followed her and when he tried to approach her to get her information, deputies reported that he told them it was Martin who began beating him up.

In the report deputies said they asked why Milfort never called the incident in to 911, and they said he told them he was scared because the other party involved was a woman.

Martin told deputies she was “110% positive” that Milfort was the man who attacked her.

Milfort was arrested Sunday and charged with Burglary of Conveyance with battery, robbery, and battery. He was still in the Orange County Jail as of Wednesday night.
