WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred on Wymore Road in Winter Park on Friday afternoon.
As a result, Wymore Road, between Lee Road and Kennedy Boulevard, was closed to traffic during the rush hour.
According to FDLE, detectives with the Altamonte Springs Police Department were conducting a felony investigation just before 1 p.m. when they located a suspect's vehicle driven by Richard Phillip Randall Jr.
Randall, the sole occupant, stopped the car in the roadway and suddenly exited the vehicle, running toward officers with an unknown object in his hands, according to investigators. Officers fired multiple shots, striking Randall. They provided lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived, but Randall was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. At the same time, the Winter Park Police Department will investigate any related crimes that may have occurred in their jurisdiction.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure during such investigations.

For officer-involved shootings, it is standard protocol for FDLE to lead the investigation.
Earlier, just before 2:30, SKYFOX flew over the area near the Fields BMW Winter Park car dealership. About a dozen law enforcement vehicles were scattered across the street.
