Wild boars tearing up Palm Coast yards

In the Hidden Lakes neighborhood in Palm Coast, residents say they have hundreds of wild pigs tearing up yards. In fact, trappers have captured 28 of the wild hogs.

Six of them were caught in Arnie Roma's back yard, but, it's his front yard that he's more worried about.

"They destroyed three quarters of my front. This is the second load of sod, we had to have top soil, six yards of rock, all the new plants."

He spent $3,000 fixing up the yard, and he's worried he will have to do it again soon, so he put up a temporary fence.  Waiting on permission from the HOA for a permanent one, he was told front yard fencing is not allowed.

"Let us put up that all American white picket fence! f ya got a problem like this and it’s a safety issue, at least let people put up a three or four foot fence."

A handful of neighbors on the same street are dealing with the same issue -- pigs tearing up their yards, some of which were even caught on surveillance video.

Residents blame it on the rains that flooding out the pigs' homes in the area, forcing them to look for food elsewhere. Others blame a nearby developer for moving in on the pigs' territory. Roma says he just wants to make sure he doesn't have to re-sod his yard all over again.

"I’m not gonna keep replacing the sod and the flowers if these wild boars come back and rip it up again!"

A management company representative didn't want to talk on the record. He referred FOX 35 to the builder.  We called several numbers and hadn't yet heard back at the time this article was published.
