When is New Year’s Day 2025?

New Year’s Day is on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

Mail delivery

Local USPS offices will be closed and regular mail will not be delivered, according to the USPS website.

Priority mail express, however, will still be delivered.

Banks

The Federal Reserve observes New Year’s Day as a federal holiday, so that means most banks will be closed.

Banks aren’t typically required to close on federal holidays, but many do. If you need to go to the bank on Wednesday, double-check your local bank’s hours of operation.

Additionally, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed.

Grocery stores and other retailers

Like with many federal holidays, some stores may choose to open or close or have varied hours depending on the location.

Big box stores such as Costco and Sam’s Club will be closed on New Year’s Day, according to the retailers’ websites.
