Volusia County teen driver killed in crash after losing control in Pierson, troopers say

PIERSON, Fla. - A teenager has died following a crash in Volusia County on Thursday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers said the crash happened at 9:13 p.m. at Murphy and Chameleon roads.
The 18-year-old driver from Pierson was traveling above the posted speed limit on Murphy Road when he lost control of his Toyota Tacoma and overturned, FHP said.

He was thrown from the pickup truck and died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.
The 19-year-old passenger, also from Pierson, sustained minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
