Volusia County Sheriff Chitwood calls council 'scumbags' after Amendment 10 vote

The Volusia County Council has voted 6-1 to challenge the legality of Amendment 10 and Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood is lashing out against this, calling the council the "scumbags of the week."

The Daytona Beach News Journal says that Amendment 10, approved by Florida voters in November, grants elected department heads, such as the Sheriff, more control of their budget and personnel by making them constitutional officers.

However, the Journal goes on to say that County Attorney Dan Eckert asked council members at the end of Tuesday’s meeting if they want to wage another legal fight seeking to exempt Volusia from this amendment. Only Councilwoman Heather Post voted no.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood responded to this vote on his Facebook page, saying that the six councilmen that voted against this amendment are "our SCUMBAGS OF THE WEEK in Volusia County." Read his full post below.

Sheriff Chitwood went on to hold a presser on the vote the next day, which can be watched below.
