Volusia County Schools employee arrested, accused of firing shots at Kentucky officers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - An employee with Volusia County Schools was arrested after documents showed he allegedly fired shots at police officers in Kentucky.
According to an arrest citation, officers with the Lousiville Metro Police Department were called out to 1117 Reutinlinger Avenue in response to a trouble run at an AirBnb location.
Police responded and knocked on one of the windows of the home after learning the 35-year-old suspect, Tombe Thomas, was barricaded in one of the bathrooms, according to an arrest citation. Police said Thomas later fired a shot through the window with two LMPD officers nearby. Tombe was later arrested after he came out of the home.
Thomas worked as an instructor with the Positive Alternative to School Suspension program with the district. He previously worked as a football coach and ESE instructor.
VCS said in a statement:
"We can confirm that he was a VCS employee. He is currently employed as an instructor for the PASS (Positive Alternative to School Suspension) program. He previously worked as an ESE instructor and football coach but was placed in his current position at the beginning of the school year.
Additional details will need to be provided by law enforcement since it's an active investigation. VCS has opened an internal professional standards investigation on the individual as well. Any further action will be determined by the findings of those investigations."
Tombe is slated to make a court appearance in Kentucky on January 7.
