The Volusia County School Board will vote Tuesday on whether to relax the eligibility requirements for student athletes.

The change, if approved, would allow athletes to continue playing even if they fail a class as long as they uphold the 2.0 grade-point average required by the Florida High School Athletics Association.

School officials believe the action could also boost the county's graduation rates, which fall below the state average.

The school board meeting happens Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
