ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Central Florida is closing campus on Wednesday ahead of Hurricane Idalia's anticipated landfall along the Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
The university's website has been updated with the following message on Tuesday:
"UCF’s Emergency Management team is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia in conjunction with our local National Weather Service office in Melbourne and the National Hurricane Center. Academic and most campus operations are suspended Wednesday, Aug. 30. Students, faculty, and staff should remain indoors and off the roads during periods of possible intermittent tropical winds and weather."
UCF will operate as usual until midnight Tuesday.
Classes are planned to resume on Thursday.
For students who live on campus, select campus dining facilities and student services will be open Wednesday.
The update comes a day after UCF said it didn't plan to disrupt normal campus operations.
UCF students are automatically signed up for UCF Alert, a time-sensitive emergency notification system, in case anything changes.
UCF's statement comes days before the Knights are scheduled to host Kent State on Thursday.
Kent State leaders told FOX 35 News they do not expect the game to be affected by the storm.
UCF Fan Experience said the game remains as scheduled.
