Two killed by man fleeing from deputies

Two people were killed after a vehicle crashed during a pursuit. 

Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened in Marion County late Friday evening.

Marion County Sheriffs Office says they were in the area of Juniper Road and Baseline Road conducting a criminal investigation when a suspicious vehicle attempted to flee the area. 

Deputies say they initiated a traffic stop and pursued the vehicle that failed to stop. 

Troopers say the suspect, 26-year-old Jaquard Cuyler, drove down SE 132 Street at a high rate of speed where Marion County deputies say they pulled back on the pursuit as he entered the intersection. 

Shortly after approaching the intersection at US-301, Cuyler ran a red light and hit an oncoming vehicle.

According to FHP, two people in that vehicle, were killed instantly. 

Troopers say that the suspect also hit a third vehicle after the initial collision. Both passengers in the third vehicle were not injured. 

The two people killed have been identified as 29-year-old Brittany Chmilarski of Ocala and 57-year-old Denise Allen of The Villages. 

Jaquard Cuyler, was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
