President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be named Time magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year on Thursday, capping off a major year for the 78-year-old who won the 2024 presidential election in an incredible political comeback.

Trump will beat out a short list of other finalists, including Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton, Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump was previously named Time’s Person of the Year in 2016, the year he won the presidency the first time after beating Hillary Clinton.

Every year, Time magazine names a person, group or concept that had the biggest impact on the world in the previous 12 months. Taylor Swift, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Musk have won in recent years.

In Time’s shortlist description, it said, "He has reshaped the American electorate, activating young male voters who propelled him to a decisive victory that saw him win the popular vote for the first time and turn every swing state red."

Trump’s victory comes after he lost the 2020 election to Biden.

"His 2024 win is history-making in multiple ways: he will be the oldest President in U.S. history, and he was convicted earlier this year by a New York jury of 34 counts of fraud, making him the first convicted felon to be elected President," Time continued in its shortlist description.

During his 2024, he identified immigration and the economy as his top priorities when he takes office.
