Hurricane Nicole is expected to make landfall along Florida's east coast this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. Several parts of Central Florida, including those along the coast, are under surge watches and warnings, tropical storm watches and warnings, or hurricane watches and warnings.
Officials are warning that Tropical Storm Nicole is a dangerous storm and that it will bring large and damaging waves along the coast, including heavy rainfall and flash flooding, in addition to high winds.

Ahead of the storm, some schools are modifying their schedules or closing. We will continue to update as additional information comes into the FOX 35 newsroom.
Brevard County Schools
Brevard County Schools announced Tuesday that it will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9 & 10, due to Tropical Storm Nicole. All activities, events, and programs are canceled. The district is closed on Friday, Nov. 11, due to Veterans Day.
Flagler County Schools
Flagler County Schools will release students early on Wednesday, Nov. 9, ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole, and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 10. School will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.
Middle school students will be released at noon. High school students will be released at 1 p.m. Elementary students will be released at 2 p.m.
Lake County Schools
Lake County Schools will hold classes on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10 & 11, due to Tropical Storm Nicole and Veterans Day. While school will be in session on Wednesday, all after-school activities are canceled, the district said in a statement.
Marion County Public Schools
Marion County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Orange County Public Schools
All Orange County public schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11. Wednesday, Nov. 9 will remain an early dismissal day.
The school district has also canceled all after-school extracurricular activities and extended day programs Wednesday through Friday. Information regarding the Florida High School Athletic Association football playoff games scheduled for Friday will be forthcoming.
Osceola County Schools
Osceola County Schools announced Tuesday that it will end classes an hour early on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 10. Due to Veterans Day, school is already closed on Friday, Nov. 11.
The district said classes would resume on Monday, Nov. 14.
Seminole County Schools
Seminole County Schools announced Tuesday during a press conference that it would be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, due to Tropical Storm Nicole. The district is closed on Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Days.
Sumter County Schools
Sumter County Schools will close on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, due to Tropical Storm Nicole, and will remain closed on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, due to Veterans Day.
Volusia County Schools
Volusia County Schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9 & 10, 2022, ahead of Tropical Storm Nichole. All school activities are canceled. School will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, due to the Veterans Day holiday.
University of Central Florida
UCF announced that it will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, and that all classes and activities are suspended. UCF Housing will remain open throughout the storm. The dining hall will remain open until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University
Embry-Riddle will close its campus at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 9, the University said in a tweet.
Seminole State College
All Seminole State campuses are closed and classes, including online, are canceled Wednesday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 11.
Full Sail University
Full Sail University will transition to remote classes ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole. In-person classes scheduled through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, will go on as normal. However, classes after 9 a.m. – and through 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 – will be remote. The University plans to reopen at 9 a.m. on Veterans Day.
Valencia College
In a tweet, Valencia College announced it will close at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 10. The school said most classes are not scheduled to meet on Friday, Nov. 11, due to the Veterans Day holiday.
