Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast this week. Here is the latest information and updates people in Volusia County need to know.

Volusia County Evacuations

Volusia County has issued evacuation orders for the following areas beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9:

  • All areas east of the intracoastal waterway
  • All manufactured and mobile homes
  • All low-lying areas and other areas prone to flooding
  • All campsites and RV recreational parks

Volusia County Curfew

Volusia County will be under a curfew from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, to 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 "to discourage unnecessary traffic during height of the storm."

It does not apply to:

  • Law enforcement
  • Businesses, industries, or government entities traveling for their jobs
  • Emergency workers

Anyone who knowingly violates the ordinance could be fined up to $500 or jailed for up to 60 days.

Volusia County Shelters

General Population Shelters:

  • Creekside Middle School, 6801 Airport Road, Port Orange
  • Deland High School, 800 N. Hill Ave., Deland
  • University High School, 1000 W. Rhode Island Ave., Orange City
  • Mainland High School, 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach **At Capacity** (10/9, 6PM)
  • Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3150 E. New York Ave., Deland

Special Needs Shelters:

  • Galaxy Middle School, 2400 Eustace Ave., Deltona
  • David C Hinson Sr Middle School, 1860 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach

These shelters will provide basic necessities such as food, water, and a place to sleep. Note that they are not intended to be comfortable living spaces.

Pet-friendly shelters:

  • DeLand High School
  • Mainland High School
  • Volusia County Fairgrounds

Owners have to bring their own pet food, medications, bowls, leashes, ID tags, and medical records.

Volusia County sandbags

Volusia County sandbag sites have now closed.

Volusia County School Closings

  • Volusia County Schools dismissed early on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
  • Volusia County Schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 9-11.

Volusia County Bridge Closures 

Volusia County has secured two Intracoastal Waterway low-rise drawbridges, into the down position. Bridge operations for boat traffic are suspended until after the storm. They will resume after the bridges have been inspected and cleared for operation.
